Hi! I'm Evgeniy — software engineer, technical leader, and independent researcher.

Born in Murmansk, in Russia's far north, I've spent nearly half my life within the Arctic Circle. Most of my career was built in St. Petersburg, and for the past few years I've been living in Istanbul, Turkey. I speak Russian and English, and understand a little Turkish.

My journey with computers began at five with an IBM PS/2 Model 55 SX, and I still find myself between the keyboard and the screen. Had I not studied computer science, I'm not sure what I would have done — perhaps music, but I'm happy with the choice I made. Most of what I work on sits unpublished on various old machines, or is closed source, though some of it is on GitHub.

Professionally, I focus on distributed and high-load systems, big data streaming, infrastructure, and the optimizations that come with them. I enjoy designing such systems, mapping their constraints, and finding ways around them. I also have a particular passion for security and cryptography. Beyond that, I like writing articles, notes, and essays, a trait I likely inherited from my grandfather, who held a PhD in history and was a writer. My first published piece appeared in Xakep, a Russian cybersecurity magazine, when I was fourteen. Two years later, I ran a small e-zine on the same subject and was one of its authors. That need to write is, I think, the main reason this site exists.
